CFP: 9th Biennial Meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Association for Medieval and Early Modern Studies

by EILEEN JOY

Well, they may have the longest acronym going in medieval and early modern studies associations -- ANZAMEMS, which stands for the Australian and New Zealand Association for Medieval and Early Modern Studies -- and that's something, but more importantly, they are throwing what looks to be a really interesting biennial conference at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia from February 12-16, 2013, on "Cultures in Translation," and the deadline for paper submissions is September 1, 2012, although they are also considering papers for early acceptance if they are submitted by May 1, 2012. More details can be found here:

Australia is obviously not easy for many of us to get to, but it should be noted, I think, that the medievalists working in Australia, at a variety of institutions, are an incredibly lively, active and brilliant cadre of scholars (especially, but not limited to, the field of studies in medievalism/medieval cultural studies), and Melbourne is a fantastic place to visit. It is the home, after all, of Little Creatures Pale Ale, and some of us don't want live in a world without that.
