If you haven't seen it, do check out Eduardo Kohn's new book _How Forests Think: Toward an Anthropology of the Nonhuman_. It's an extraordinary work, which offers a deeply compelling model for conceptualizing human-nonhuman interrelation (drawing both on his fieldwork with the Runa people of the Amazon and Peircian semiotics).
