OE job at UC Berkeley

Knowing that many of ITM's readers are young in the field, Maura Nolan has asked me to post the following.

UC Berkeley is conducting an open-rank search for a specialist in Old English language and literature. The job was not coming up via "medieval" keyword searches in the MLA job list, the primary way most graduate students and early career medievalists would discover it. The problem has been solved, however, and the information is now available there.

Hmmm . . . open-rank search, seeking "young in the field." This is Nicholas Howe's position. Do they want an established "star," or seriously, someone "young in the field"? I just wonder.

This is a big year for California medieval studies, what with positions available at UC-Irvine, UC-San Diego, UC-Santa Barbara, and Stanford.

Blood in the water at this year's MLA, I tell you, blood in the water.

I have no information one way or another or this, but it does seem to me that if they are so keen on getting applications from young in the field scholars, then they are serious about a true open rank search.
