Off to Edinburgh

by J J Cohen

.... and the "Sensualising Deformity" conference, where I will be presenting some version of this.

I'm very much looking forward to the event, not only because I get to see old friends (Michael O'Rourke! Rosemarie Garland-Thompson!) and make some new ones, but also because I haven't been to Edinburgh since the summer between finishing my BA and starting graduate school. I wandered for a few months around the UK, not carrying much more than some books and a backpack. Edinburgh was one of my stops. I climbed Arthur's Seat, took a haunted pub tour, wandered the streets. It was Fringe Festival, so the place was crowded -- and I'd been spending a great deal of time alone in these peregrinations, so the city's vitality was a bit overwhelming. But I saw Equus performed (naked and outdoors), heard some good music, was impressed by the beauty of the place ... it will be good to be back.
